Repairs we carry out
Most roofing work in Somerset isn't a brand-new roof — it's putting right the bits that wind, rain and time have worn out. The repairs we're asked about most often are:
- Slipped, cracked or missing tiles and slates, replaced and refixed.
- Ridge and verge repointing where old mortar has cracked or washed out.
- Flashing around chimneys, walls and roof windows that has lifted or split.
- Valleys where two slopes meet and water is getting in at the join.
- Storm damage after high winds or heavy rain.
We also repair flat roofs — see our flat roofing page for EPDM, GRP and felt — and chimney stacks, covered on our chimney repairs page.
Finding the real cause of a leak
A damp patch on the bedroom ceiling rarely sits directly below the fault. Water can run along a rafter, a batten or the top of the underlay before it finds a way down, so the drip you see may be a metre or more from where it got in.
That's why we don't just swap the nearest tile and hope. We look at the inside first, then the loft, then the roof itself, checking the likely culprits: broken tiles, failed flashing, open ridge joints and blocked valleys. Fixing the actual cause first time saves you paying for the same repair twice.

Repair or re-roof: honest advice
Jason has spent 25 years on West Country roofs, and one thing he won't do is talk you into a bigger job than you need. If a few tiles and some repointing will keep your roof sound for years, that's what we'll recommend.
On the other hand, if the battens are rotten, the felt has perished and leaks are popping up across the roof, patching it can end up costing more over time. In that case we'll explain why a full strip and re-tile may be the better route, and you can read about what's involved on our re-roofs and pitched roofs page. The decision is always yours.
Roof leaking? Call 07399 680142
We offer emergency leak call-outs across our area. If water is coming through, ring 07399 680142 and tell us what you're seeing. Our aim is to get the roof made safe fast and then come back to carry out a proper repair, rather than leaving a temporary fix in place.
While you wait, move valuables away from the drip, put a bucket underneath and, if a ceiling is bulging with water, keep people out of that room. Don't go up on the roof yourself — wet tiles are dangerous.
Keeping small problems small
Many of the bigger repair bills we see started as something minor left for a winter or two. A single slipped tile lets rain onto the felt; the felt rots; the batten softens; and before long a whole section needs stripping. It's worth a look from the ground every spring and after a big storm. Check for tiles out of line, mortar in the gutters, moss building up in valleys and stains on the ceiling below. If you spot something, a photo sent with your enquiry helps us understand what we're dealing with before we arrive.
