The part of Devon we cover
We focus on the eastern side of the county, within about 50 miles of Taunton. That takes in the Culm valley towns of Cullompton and Tiverton, the city of Exeter, the Otter valley around Honiton, and the Axe valley down to the coast at Axminster and Seaton. We have dedicated pages for the four places we're asked about most, each with detail on local housing and common jobs.
- Roofers in Exeter: city terraces, Victorian villas and suburban estates.
- Roofers in Honiton: the high street's older buildings and the surrounding villages.
- Roofers in Axminster: market-town homes and rural properties in the Axe valley.
- Roofers in Seaton: coastal homes that take the brunt of the sea weather.
What East Devon roofs face
East Devon has a real mix of buildings. Exeter has long Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, chimneys and lead valleys, alongside post-war and modern estates in concrete tile. Market towns such as Honiton and Axminster have older centres with listed and period buildings. Out in the countryside there are cottages, farmhouses and converted barns. Along the coast, wind-driven rain and salt air are hard on mortar, flashings and metal fixings, so ridges and verges tend to need attention sooner.
Typical jobs across the area
Much of our Devon work is repair: slipped slates, tired ridge mortar, worn lead flashings and leaks around chimneys. Full roof replacements come up where an older roof has had repair after repair. Extensions and garages bring flat roof work, and plenty of homes need guttering, fascias and soffits renewed. We also handle chimney repairs and spray foam removal for owners who've had it flagged by a surveyor.

Exeter and the Culm valley
Closer to the motorway, Cullompton and Tiverton have a mix of older town-centre houses, cottages and newer estates. Inner Exeter neighbourhoods such as Heavitree, St Thomas and Pennsylvania have plenty of Victorian slate roofs, bay windows and chimneys, while Topsham's older streets near the estuary have their own period details. Each brings its own typical work, from slate repairs and chimney flashings to dormer and extension flat roofs.
The Axe valley and the coast
Inland, Axminster and the villages around it include stone and rendered houses, farm buildings and bungalows. On the coast at Seaton, exposure is the main issue: verges, ridges and flashings face the full force of wind off the sea, and metal fixings and gutters age faster in salty air.
Coming from Somerset
We've been roofing across Somerset and Devon for 25 years. Our yard is on the Langport Road outside Taunton, which keeps East Devon well within reach. We arrange a visit, look at the roof properly and send a free written quote, the same way we work closer to home. See all the places we cover on our areas page.
