Down the A303 to south Somerset

Yeovil is the main town in the south of the county, close to the Dorset border. From our yard on the Langport Road outside Taunton, it's an easy run via the A303 and A37, so the town and its surrounding villages are firmly inside the 50 or so miles we cover. Whether you're in the centre or on one of the estates at the edge of town, we can arrange a visit and send a free written quote.

Yeovil's buildings and what they mean for roofs

Hamstone in the old town

The honey-coloured Ham Hill stone is the town's signature material, seen in churches, older shops around the centre and many houses in nearby villages such as Montacute, Stoke-sub-Hamdon and Martock. Stone buildings like these tend to have chimneys, parapets and roof junctions where lead and mortar do a lot of work. Repairs need care: matching clay tiles or slates, sensible mortar on ridges and stacks, and flashings tucked properly into the stonework.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces

Streets of brick terraces grew around the town as the glove-making and later engineering industries expanded. Many still have slate roofs, shared chimneys and rear outshots with small roofs of their own. Typical jobs include slipped slates, cracked ridge mortar and tired valleys.

Post-war and modern estates

Large areas of the town were built after the war, from estates around Westfield and Larkhill to newer developments towards Lufton, Brympton and Houndstone. These mostly have concrete interlocking tiles, which last well but rely on ridges, verges and felt that age sooner. Garages and extensions often add flat roofs to the mix.

Typical roof work in Yeovil

  • Roof repairs: slipped tiles, ridge and verge faults, leaks around chimneys and valleys.
  • Re-roofing where an older roof has had repair after repair and the felt and battens are worn out.
  • Flat roofs on extensions, dormers and garages, in EPDM, GRP or felt.
  • Gutter cleaning, especially on tree-lined roads where leaves fill gutters each autumn.
  • Roof moss removal and cleaning on shaded north-facing slopes.

Other services available in the town

Alongside the core roofing jobs, we also handle chimney repairs, lead flashing and leadwork, and guttering, fascias and soffits. If a surveyor has flagged foam in your loft during a sale, our spray foam removal page explains what's involved.

How a Yeovil job runs

You tell us what you've noticed, ideally with a photo or two taken safely from the ground. We visit, look at the roof properly and send a written quote setting out what's included. If access equipment is needed, it's arranged before work starts, and the site is cleared when the job is finished.

Frequently asked questions

Is Yeovil inside your working area?

Yes. We cover Somerset and Devon up to about 50 miles from our base near Taunton, and Yeovil sits well within that range in south Somerset.

Can you repair roofs on hamstone buildings?

Yes. Older stone houses usually need matching tiles or slates, sympathetic mortar on chimneys and ridges and careful leadwork where the roof meets the stone. We'll explain the approach after looking at the building.

Do you offer gutter cleaning and roof cleaning in Yeovil?

We do. Gutters can be cleared and downpipes checked, and moss can be removed from roofs where it's building up. Both are quoted in writing after a visit.

Do you work on commercial premises in Yeovil?

Yes. We take on both domestic and commercial roofing, so shops, offices and rented property in the town are covered as well as homes.
